We are happy to introduce our instructor Elizabeth Cochrane, who is an artist and workshop teacher originally from England, now living in Tuscany for the past 10 years. Liz is affiliated with several galleries in Tuscany where her work is always in high demand. She brings a sense of humor to her workshops and is gifted in working with students of all ages and abilities. We will visit the great art sites Barcelona is famous for Park Guell, the ceramic enclosed public space designed and created by Gaudi, Sagrada Familia, the on-going cathedral masterpiece of Catalan architecture designed specifically to be contributed to by artists of every generation, Casa Mila`(La Pedrera), the architecturally innovative steel structure apartment house Gaudi designed in the center of Barcelona, and Casa Batllo`, considered to be Gaudi's masterpiece for its organic, visceral quality. It falls out of the range of a particular art historical characterization, but compared most closely to Art Nouveau and modernism.
In addition, we will visit Las Ramblas, the famous promenade where performance artists, cafes, and vendors converge to create a magical atmosphere Barcelona is known for. We will also enjoy an evening of Spanish Guitar (see video).
